1) Three or four random ActiveSync disconnects, and problems copying a large file over to my SD card.
2) At first I couldn't run in one of my favorite games because the e740 wouldn't detect the button press while a direction was being pressed. Then I changed the mapping to another button and it worked while moving. So, like others have said of the e310, apparently the unit has a problem with only one certain button being pressed while pressing a direction.
As far as "lag" of the directional pad goes, the only problem I have is with diagonals - while the d-pad seems to respond perfectly to left, right, up, and down, when I try to go diagonally there is a slight delay - nothing too bad. However, one annoying thing I noticed - like the Casio E-200, you can't change directions by rolling your thumb around the d-pad (the unit makes you continue going the direction you were headed when you first pressed it down). You have to pick up your thumb to change direction, which isn't too bad.
The screen is excellent, at least when compared to my Maestro and Casio BE-300. It's evenly-lit and the picture quality is better than that of the Maestro (I guess they tweaked the contrast a bit). Oh, and when comparing the screen to my Maestro, I finally noticed that the Maestro does have a pinkish hue that apparently can only be detected by holding it side-by-side with another PPC. Overall, it's quite an improvement from my Maestro.
I like that on the e740, the SD card is automatically labeled as "Storage Card 2," regardless of which card you insert first. This eliminates the need for a registry hack that could potentionally hurt the operation of the unit.
Speed-wise, I'd say it's the same as my Maestro. I haven't noticed any improvements or slow-downs. I tried the demo of PocketTV Enterprise edition and it worked fine for my purposes - I'll try the regular free version tonight.
I love the metal casing. It feels much higher-quality than my Maestro, and there's no paint to chip off (paint started coming off of the corners of my Maestro).
One of my few complaints would be with the stylus of the e740, at least when compared to that of the Maestro. I thought the Maestro had a pretty bad stylus, but the one in the e740 is awful. It's even smaller and more light-weight - so tiny it's almost difficult to hold. But I guess if I hated it enough I could buy a third-party stylus, so it's no big deal. And it's quite functional - it gets my input on the screen. ;)
Overall, I'm very impressed with the quality of the e740, especially after hearing some negative things about it. Nothing's loose on my e740, nothing creaks when pressed, and the whole unit seems quite durable and high-quality. It's not as heavy as my Maestro, and a bit thinner, but it's a little wider so I guess overall it's just about the same size. On another note, I actually got a dust-free and dead pixel-free unit - something I can't say of my Maestro (it has some dust and a dead pixel).
I'll still be keeping my Maestro (mainly for games) - at least for right now. But since I don't have any real problems with the e740, it seems to be perfect for me.
